Uber Eats In-app and Relief Fund
Uber Eats has added an in-app donate button for anyone who wants to give extra cash to their favorite restaurant. This is basically to help during the coronavirus pandemic with the use of modern technology.
The company plans to match every contribution dollar-for-dollar up to $3 million to the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund. An additional $2 million donation will also go to the fund. All or 100 percent of customer donations will go directly to their restaurant of choice.
In an earlier report, Uber said it would waive delivery fees for independent restaurants. This is part of an effort to boost businesses that were hit by the virus as it disrupted daily life. The company’s food delivery service also to delivers free meals to more than 300,000 healthcare workers.
The company is piloting two different donation amounts to offer as choices to customers who want to help.
Uber Eats has announced on Monday to New York City restaurants working with them about the new donation effort. Moreover, Uber will inform restaurants in Uber markets about the donation feature in the weeks to come.
The company further said that restaurants can easily opt-out if they choose.
Uber Eats Contributes to the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund
Uber Eats customers’ donations via in-app technology plus more from the company will go to The Restaurant Employee Relief Fund. The educational fund of the National Restaurant Association manages the relief fund. The 100-year-old association is a major lobbying group that represents 500,000 restaurants.
Food industry employees and workers who have suffered from the impact of the coronavirus are eligible to apply for grants. This includes decrease in wages and loss of employment. Applications will be reviewed and verified by the NRAEF and the grant money will be awarded as soon as possible.
Technology news reported the NRAEF announced overwhelming support for the Restaurant Relief America Campaign. Major companies and individuals across the country have given new contributions.
The Restaurant Employee Relief Fund has received more than $10 million to support U.S. restaurant workers. The Relief Fund was launched to help those workers across the nation who have lost their jobs and livelihood due to forced business closures.
Rob Gifford, President of the NRAEF said as many as five to seven million restaurant workers may lose their jobs. Support for the fund has been tremendous and they are excited to have The Coca-Cola Company join them, he added. Their growing group of partners are working tirelessly to help protect vulnerable restaurant workers with their financial support.
