What to expect from Whatsapp in 2021
WhatsApp, the Facebook-owned messaging service is working on several tools, which are already in beta. They are expected to arrive on devices in the coming months.
Throughout 2020, WhatsApp has been receiving new interesting features; such as the inclusion of dark mode, the increase in the number of possible participants in video calls or messages. By 2021, it is expected to continue incorporating tools that help improve the user experience. Here are some features the app is already testing at the moment.
WhatsApp on various devices
The possibility of using the same WhatsApp account on different “smartphones” or tablets has been one of the most repeated requests from users of the platform over the years. Thanks to leaks from WABetaInfo, the specialized portal, we know that the tool is already being tested. It will allow you to use the same account on a maximum of four devices. However, we do not know if it will only be available on smartphones, or it can also be used with tablets and other devices. Telegram, WhatsApp’s main competitor, has been offering this service to its users for a long time.
Goodbye to videos and photos
WhatsApp already allows you to schedule the removal of the messages you send. Now, the messaging application is working on going one step further. Specifically, the platform is designing a new function, which is already available in beta, that will allow the user to destroy the videos, photos and GIFS that they send in a chat. This tool can be interesting for those who are protective of their privacy. However, whoever receives the content can still take screenshots if they wish.
Vacation mode
Technology has become an indispensable tool for users to keep in touch. However, its abuse, especially in these times of hyperconnection and teleworking, can cause stress. For a few months, WhatsApp has been working on a new “vacation mode” to help prevent this. The feature will allow those who use it to keep the user’s conversations, even if new messages arrive.
New terms of use
WhatsApp will update its terms of use in 2021. At the moment it is unknown what they will include. However, the news will explain how the application processes user data and how companies can use Facebook services to store and manage WhatsApp conversations. It will be mandatory to accept the new terms to continue using the application.
Video/voice calls on your computer
The messaging application is working to make video calls possible through the computer version: WhatsApp Web. The feature is already in beta.
