Tesla’s Prototype Ventilators Finally Previewed on YouTube
As the world scrambles to cushion the impact of the coronavirus, Tesla comes in and finds ways to help the cause. The groundbreaking development in the company’s prototype could help the exhausted medical sector.
See, as the authorities try to flatten the curb, hospitals have faced tremendous surges in cases in recent weeks. This is draining the capacity of medical centers in terms of manpower and available equipment.
The electric vehicle maker from the United States takes part in the fight to help the front liners of the battle. Tesla’s engineers are working hard to develop support machines such as ventilators for patients.
Just recently, the technology company’s engineers finally showed off the highly anticipated prototype for a makeshift ventilator yesterday. Tesla published the video on its official channel the video on the online streaming platform YouTube on Sunday.
According to an engineer from the company, Tesla car components make up the ventilator. This could very much enable the company to redeploy its existing stocks and produce more ventilators.
Two weeks prior to the video, Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Mush announced the plan to help the medical industry. Musk even said that the company is planning to reopen its factory in New York to help produce the ventilators.
The video presented two prototypes. The first one is laid over across a desk and the second is a packaged model. The latter is what it will look like when it’s used in a hospital.
Technology news outlets from all across the globe covered the video as it comes at a crucial time.
The initiative from the company comes after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called the company to ask for help.
The Crowd’s Reception and Tesla’s Explanation
Tesla has received criticism because of inventing a new design instead of creating from an existing one. However, the video finally explains the reason why the tech firm opted to invent one.
In the video, one of the company’s engineers said that they want to use components and materials that they know are reliable. Aside from that, they also considered the availability of the materials so that the company can produce larger volumes.
The innovation from the company stands out and shows true prowess in this modern technology.
The Palo Alto, California-based company’s ventilator underwent repurposing from various car units including the Model 3. The part adapted from the aforementioned unit is its infotainment screen and computer as well as the suspension system.
By using its own technology, Tesla is looking to develop and produce ventilators faster to support medical workers.
And aside from Tesla, other vehicle producers such as Ford and General Motors have also announced plans to produce equipment.
